Brigitte Legeron

Brigitte Underwood-Legeron is a Seychelles-born, Western Australia-based writer and performance artist. Just like her favourite Creole dishes from home, dance and music colours her life in rhythms and adds flavour to her writing. Under the pen name Bree Woods, she writes women’s fiction and contemporary romance, currently revising a novel about a migrant woman’s healing journey through dance.

A member of Romance Writers of Australia for over a decade and Holly Craig’s Write Club, Brigitte also freelances as a Sega, Moutya, Maloya, and Samba dancer. She drums and dances with the all-female Brazilian percussion band Banda Ziriguidum and joined Creole band Salama Maloya Music as a dancer/singer in 2022. Their second Fringe World Perth show won Best Music/Musical in 2023.

She toured with Salama Maloya to Christmas and Cocos Keeling Islands in 2024 and has performed as a storyteller at the Backyard Festival with The Centre for Stories. Brigitte also featured in the “Black Diaspora” exhibit at WA Museum Boorloo and performed spoken word at “The Things We Bear” event at the State Library of WA. Her work celebrates cultural diversity, especially stories of migrants and characters of mixed heritage.
